Pickin’ and Musing: November

I have a chair problem. It’s self diagnosed but I think I have a strong case based on the fact that my storage room is almost stacked to the ceiling with chairs. When I find them I start to envision the space and property that where it would live. Which then convinces me to buy it. Because what if that space actually exists one day?! I’ve built about four imaginary ADU’s on our lot so far.

I spent a day this month doing a quick round of my local faves. It was a busier month so I only made it to my two favorites; Architectural Antiques and Find Furnish.

Chair of the Month Club

I keep thinking about this silly butterfly chair at Find Furnish. I say silly only because I had one of these in my childhood bedroom in bright purple. It gave me back problems then and it would only exacerbate them now. Maybe this one made me stop because we matched. Couple goals as they say.

A classic. It was tough to capture but the patina on the leather was so yummy.

I might have to go back for this one - and the red phone? I’ve never seen a safari chair with blue waxed canvas.

This was one of those chairs that is perfectly proportioned. Generous seat and the back hugs just right.

When the Sink Fits

This sink stopped me in my tracks. Everything about her says utility. The close-set sinks, very tall backsplash, heavy patina and shared faucet. At first I wondered if that would be frustrating to use but returning to it now it seems very useable.

Sinks of Apartments Past

I had one of these sinks in my uptown apartment. We had a love-hate relationship but I still think of her, years after the split. It was paired with Lino tile and 10’ ceilings.

A fun utility sink? Could it be?

This sink has been at Architectural Antiques for years now. Someday I will find a home for you.

Parting Thought

I came upon this wacky shower in the basement of the German Club in Racine, Wisconsin. It’s ugly and I love it. It’s okay if you don’t agree.
