Pickin’ and Musing: Spring

I’ve spent the first few months of this year doing heads down work and digging into client projects. When this happens I tend to put blinders on and ignore everything else in my life. Work-life balance? Never heard of her. However! I did keep life somewhat balanced by incorporating some picking time.

Spotted in south Minneapolis. You can’t fake this patina.

Case in point:

Precious silver/tin fishies. How sweet would one of these be above a doorway?

Two perfect plates in two perfect materials; copper and wood.

This very utilitarian curtain caught my eye. Just few grommets in a lovely striped sailcloth.

Colors on the St. Croix

This corner in Stillwater perfectly portrayed the colors of the river valleys. We took a road trip last Summer along the Mississippi river valley and this palette (and materials) followed us everywhere.

I’ve decided I’m going back for this watercolor. Dated 1911.

I guess I had fish on the brain. This chalkware fish is something of an upgrade from the Big Mouth Billy Bass.

Colors, always colors. I regret not buying this. Found in a garage near Columbus. Still thinking about it.

Forgotten Tasks

I came upon this wood shed at an estate sale near Afton. The screen porch below was on the same property. These colors in the early spring light were striking.

Parting Thought

What some people see as the yuckiest time of year, I see as one of the loveliest. The evergreens are strong and the sky is a chilly blue. The native grasses are rusty red and muddy beige. Once the buds pop they are the most perfect shade of green. The colors are blurred, soft and in my opinion, just right.
